Valeria Pachianni

Valeria Pacchiani is a freelance designer born in New York and living in Switzerland. She works internationally for drama and dance companies. She has designed over 20 shows stressed by diverse influences.

Awarded for her MA at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD) in Design for Performance. She was also a Linbury Prize finalist in 2015 and a Royal Opera House bursary recipient in 2017. Moreover she co-produced an award-winning short film for Point Prod and Swiss Radio Television (RTS).

Before starting as a performance designer, Valeria Pacchiani obtained a Masters degree in International Relations at the Graduate Institute of International Relations and Development (IHEID)(2004-2008) in Geneva. She worked for various United Nations(UN)agencies.

Thanks to her background in stage acting, photography and political economy, Valeria Pacchiani pushes her design as an invitation to reflection. Characters involvement within space are the starting point of her process; through photo moodboards' collages, she draws the dynamic and emotion that converge. And finally materials are carefully chosen as a visual response to the performance dialogue.
