Founded in 1987 by Lady Anya Sainsbury, the Linbury Prize is one of the UK’s foremost design prizes and the only nationwide prize for stage design. It has helped launch the careers of over 250 artists. Offering an unparalleled opportunity for exposure and success at a pivotal moment in a designer’s career, the prize has been running for 38 years.

The Linbury Prize seeks to give emerging designers the best possible start to a sustainable career in design. 12 prize recipients have been selected for their technical skill, artistic ability and creative vision as the brightest talent from across the UK.

This exhibition showcases the work of the prize recipients. Additionally, they receive a bursary prize to support an associate design placement with an established designer, giving them mentoring and first-hand experience of the production process in a supportive, professional environment.

The Linbury Prize has historically been open to graduates of theatre design courses. From 2023, applications were opened to designers who could demonstrate equivalent skills and experience.

The Linbury Prize believes that it is more important than ever to support designers in developing their creativity and imagination alongside sustainable practice.
