Jodie Yates

Jodie Yates is a designer and maker, based in Cardiff and London and a graduate of Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama’s BA in Design for Performance and University of Arts London’s Foundation in Art and Design. Her practice has always leant towards participation and has continuously responded to space – creating installations and experiences. This naturally led to designing for performance, where her creativity has thrived through collaboration.

Jodie's process focuses on audience experience and how to elevate their interpretation and understanding of the performance. She adapts stylistically to the stimulus, space, and collaborators on each unique project. Working across set, costume and puppetry, she utilises a range of skills from Photoshop and basic AutoCAD to clay sculpting, scenic painting, puppeteering, and mechanism development to breathe life into space and character. Jodie has a particular interest in less conventional theatre, striving to explore audience integration and creating relaxed and accessible performance spaces.
