"The Linbury Prize has consistently introduced generations of pioneering designers. For younger practitioners like me, it has been a source of lasting inspiration, offering the chance to study the work of these designers, learn from their experiences, and possibly will collaborate with them to investigate my own practice. This enduring legacy gives the prize a sense of sustainability: it is like a living book, an ever-growing record that can be explored, treasured, and shared back with the community."
HAIYAN HESTER XUE 薛海燕,Designer
Haiyan Hester Xue is a set and costume designer working between the UK and China. Her practice seeks to draw out depth and hidden conflict from the seemingly banal aspects of everyday life, creating performance spaces for opera, plays, dance, and theatre that challenge perception and strive to break down bias.
Hester trained at an academic fine art high school, earned a Diploma in Art and Design at the Camberwell, Chelsea and Wimbledon Foundation, and graduated from Wimbledon College of Art and Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
