Oła Kłos

Born and raised in Poland, Ola Kłos has divided her life between Poland, the UK and Switzerland. Her BA degree in Interior and Spatial Design at Buckinghamshire New University provided her with an architectural background that she brings into the world of designing for performance. With rigorous study of the story, the relationship between the space and people who inhabit it is central to her process, creating a spatial and visual playground with and for other creatives.

After completing an MA Design for Performance at Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Ola Kłos wants to focus on designing immersive experiences and provoking unique stories. She has designed fringe theatre shows in London with transfers to the Ukraine and Germany and was the design assistant on Welsh production Pijin/Pigeon, which toured venues across Wales including Cardiff’s Sherman Theatre.

An Enemy of the People

by Henrik Ibsen Speculative design

In this concept, the characters of Ibsen’s famous play live in
a brutalist Eastern European environment. Dr Stockmann is a busy doctor who privately sees patients in her basement located underneath the family’s flat. This is where the dispute about whether it is worth fighting for an individual starts – a place where interpersonal bonds are put to the test. As Dr Stockmann engages in community issues, her doctor’s office is slowly taken over by rot and water.

The unexpected discoveries seem to be experienced not solely by the society and characters, but also architecture and nature itself. The collapse of the walls and flooding of the space in the show’s finale is a metaphorical portrait of the omnipresent loss, destruction and impasse.

Human Animals

by Stef Smith

Human Animals is an invitation towards a distorted world which seems both recognisable and abstract at the same time. Residents of London are found in the middle of an ecological crisis, which
leads to road closures, burning of parks, people barricading their homes and more. The omnipresent environmental disaster influences relationships between a few neighbours who hold a debate over animal rights and the mass-destruction of animals. Stepping into Human Animals’ world means entering a broken place where people are looking for answers while fighting with their demons, morals, beliefs and closest ones.

Nova Centre

Speculative design

Nova Centre is a cultural centre placed in a former synagogue building in Poznań, Poland. The purpose
of this conceptual design was to breathe new life into
the former synagogue building, while respecting its historic shape and drawing inspiration from remaining ornaments and materials. Citizens and tourists would have an opportunity to visit the museum exhibition of the history of Jews from the Greater Poland region, explore kosher food served in the café or watch a performance in a newly redesigned 250-seat auditorium. The idea to convert this building into a publicly accessible space was born on the canvas of frustration and disappointment over the building history and maintenance after WWII.
